The station debuted on August 23, 1983, 2 days after the assassination of Ninoy Aquino. However, the station had been operating under different call letters (meaning that there's the same frequency since the mid-70s), and inherited the call letters "RX" from the station’s former owners, describing "perscription music". On that same year, the station adopted the pop format as Music City RX93 and became #1 on the survey in the mid-80s.
